Victoria Cooney, MS
Registered Marriage and Family Therapy Intern
I must congratulate you for taking the first step in seeking support from a mental health professional to help successfully navigate you through challenges. It takes courage to take the first step and set the first appointment.
My primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) combined with Psychodynamic therapy. I deliver a CBT approach focusing on insight and action through challenging and changing cognitive distortions and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and modeling the development of personal coping strategies. My psychodynamic approach aims at helping you achieve self-awareness and understanding of the influences of the past on present behavior.
I believe in a holistic approach to psychotherapy taking into consideration the physical, emotional and spiritual components of your life. Learning about your upbringing, culture, spiritual beliefs and personal narrative will help me to understand you. By looking at your past, we can find patterns of behavior and beliefs that contributed to your current circumstances.
I am a marriage coach and facilitator for marriage workshops. In addition to creating the workshop curriculum, I help couples discover better ways to meet each other’s needs, communicate and resolve conflict.
For me counseling is not a career, it is a calling. I believe that you have the inner resources not only to go through your present circumstances but to transcend your circumstances, become self-aware and become a better you and pursue the life you dream.
